Basketball Recap: Port Aransas Snags 11th Victory in Last 14 Games

Port Aransas won the last time they faced Woodsboro and things went their way on Friday too. The Port Aransas Marlins enjoyed a cozy 40-23 win over the Woodsboro Eagles. Given the Marlins' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 628th, while the Eagles are ranked 1420th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jaqulynn Tully and Aniya Zena certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Tully posted 17 points and three steals, while Zena put up six points and four steals. That's the most steals Zena has posted since back in November of 2024.

Port Aransas is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.6 points per game. As for Woodsboro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-22.

Port Aransas will take on Three Rivers at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. As for Woodsboro, they will square off against Skidmore-Tynan at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
