Baseball Recap: Montebello Beats Bell Gardens for Their Third Straight Victory

Montebello had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Bell Gardens Lancers. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Oilers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Isaac Solorzano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Fernando Cruz and Devin Lopez did most of the damage at the plate: Cruz went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Lopez scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Cruz has become a key player for Montebello: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 1-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Roberto Barraza, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Montebello kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Montebello now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Bell Gardens, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 4-2.

Montebello didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against La Canada on the 17th. As for Bell Gardens, they have also already played their next game, a 10-0 win against San Gabriel on the 11th.
