Baseball Game Preview: Providence Day Chargers vs. Cox Mill Chargers

Providence Day will head out to face off against Cox Mill at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Providence Day has three straight victories, Cox Mill has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Providence Day not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 12th. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Caldwell Academy.

Hudson Poindexter looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Providence Day is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Providence Day let Cullen Ward and Austin Ward run wild. Cullen scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Austin went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Austin is becoming a predictor of Providence Day's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-2 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brendan Ravin, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-1.

Providence Day was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Cox Mill didn't have quite enough to beat Lincoln Charter on Monday and fell 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Chargers have lost by just one run.

Braden Greene was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Trendyn Motley made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Providence Day's record is now 8-10. As for Cox Mill, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
