After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Memphis Christian, Kirby was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Melrose Golden Wildcats with a sharp 13-5 victory. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by six runs or more this season.

Elijah Cody made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Kirby's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-2 (and 3-7 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Brajan Chavarria and Andrew Orozco did most of the damage at the plate: Chavarria went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Orozco went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Kirby is 6-2 when Chavarria posts two or more runs, but 1-7 otherwise. Terrence Stephenson was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

With the win, Kirby broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-9. As for Melrose, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-11.

As of now, neither Kirby nor the Golden Wildcats have any future games scheduled.
