Basketball Recap: Kyra Smith-Goard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Shaw over Bedford

Shaw was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against the Bedford Bearcats, falling 48-28. The Cardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bearcats earlier this season, when they won 50-49.

Shaw's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyra Smith-Goard, who posted 17 points. Smith-Goard continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tynya Jackson, who scored seven points.

Shaw's record is now 2-16. As for Bedford, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Lorain the next time they take the court. Bedford will host Lorain at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Shaw will head out to face them at 12:30 p.m. on February 8th.
