Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Ashdown

Ashdown entered their tilt with Genoa Central on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Dragons. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since March 22nd.

Walt Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Riley Williamson, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wood Walton, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Ashdown's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Genoa Central, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ashdown will host Smackover at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Genoa Central, they will be playing at home against Harmony Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Dragons surely won't give up without a fight.
