“I wanted to go to UNM because I think I can be a big help to their up-and-coming program,” Pressley, who is listed on the school’s website at 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, said in a text message. “I just felt good when I went on my visit — like this is where God wanted me to be.”

Pressley, who is projected to play running back for the Lobos, rushed for 887 yards on 100 carries and scored 14 touchdowns for the Lions, who finished with a 6-3 record playing a mostly out-of-state schedule. He also caught 14 passes for 96 yards.

“We are very excited for Jhurell,” Red Lion Christian coach Eric Day said. “Coach (Mike) Locksley has always been a great judge of talent, and so to have him offer Jhurell just shows you what kind of player he is.”

Pressley, who says he hasn’t declared a major but is considering criminal justice, social work or sports management, spent his gridiron career running through holes created by Auburn-bound offensive lineman Angelo Blackson.

“I am excited to get to show off what I have done and show the world that Delaware has players that can go D1 and play,” Pressley added. “UNM is a great start for me. I can learn and grow into a great back.”
