Preview: Harlan Hawks vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS

Two dominant guards in Loghan Hamilton and Jordan Pete are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Harlan Hawks will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Sotomayor WILDCATS at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Harlan sitting on three straight victories and Sotomayor on seven.

Last Thursday, Harlan was able to grind out a solid win over Stevens, taking the game 52-41. 52 seems to be a good number for Harlan as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Jaydin Thornton Murray Garrigan and Ruhama Salyers were among the main playmakers for Harlan as the former scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and four steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. Salyers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Alexa Romero was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Sotomayor didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Jay on Thursday, but they still walked away with a 41-37 win.

Harlan's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Sotomayor, their victory bumped their record up to 16-4.

Everything came up roses for Harlan against Sotomayor in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 59-24 win. With Harlan ahead 36-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
