Softball Recap: Lorain Comes Up Short

Lorain extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-13. They lost 11-1 to the Strongsville Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Titans of the 17-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2021.

Lorain saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Vada Blankenship, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Blankenship is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Strongsville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games.

On Strongsville's side, Addison Heidenhoffer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Heidenhoffer has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Alyssa Agbuya was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adriana Maenza, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lorain will welcome Wellington at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Strongsville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Brunswick at 5:00 p.m. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
