Baseball Recap: Urbana Tigers vs. Centennial Chargers
Urbana had lost six straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-19 to make it seven. They lost 21-3 to the Centennial Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Monday.
Urbana saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Daniels, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Centennial, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 14-15. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games.
On Centennial's side, they got a great performance from Nick Kroencke as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Kroencke also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Chargers are 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 12-14 otherwise.
At the plate, Wyatt Brownfield was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cal Meyers, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one triple, and one run.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Urbana will head out to challenge Danville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Centennial, they will head out on the road to face off against Mt. Zion at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
