Football Recap: West Bladen Starts Season with Loss at Home

West Bladen unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 34-12 to the Pender Patriots on Friday. The Knights were not able to make up for their defeat to the Patriots from their previous meeting back in November of 2016.

Despite the loss, West Bladen still got an impressive performance from Ahmarie White, who rushed for 77 yards and a pair of scores.

Pender got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Austin Deal out in front who rushed for 132 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. Those 132 rushing yards gave Deal a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zeke Williams, who rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.

Coming up, West Bladen is taking a road trip to square off against East Bladen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pender, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Red Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
