Basketball Recap: Gavin Kepler's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Awaken Christian over Lincoln County

Awaken Christian and Lincoln County squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Awaken Christian had to settle for second. They fell 57-46 to the Lincoln County Lynx. The Lions just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gavin Kepler, who went 6-for-14 en route to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and five blocks. The dominant performance gave Kepler a new career-high in blocks. Ethan Kepler was another key player, going 7-for-17 on his way to 15 points and three steals.

Lincoln County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kalen Bart led the charge by going 6-for-9 to rack up 15 points and seven boards. Bart is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last nine games he's played. Another player making a difference was Rowdy Lloyd, who posted 16 points and six rebounds.

Awaken Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 12-12. As for Lincoln County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.

Awaken Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lincoln County, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against White Pine at 4:40 p.m. on Friday. White Pine will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Lincoln County surely won't give up without a fight.
