Basketball Recap: Hylton's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Hylton needed a changed in momentum after dropping eight straight games and they got it from Marshall Scarborough Iv. The Hylton Bulldogs pulled ahead with a 52-51 photo finish over the Freedom Eagles on Tuesday thanks in part to Scarborough Iv, who went 8 of 18 en route to 26 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points.

Kaleb Swanigan was another key player, putting up seven points and 12 boards. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played.

Hylton's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 2-14. As for Freedom, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Hylton and Freedom could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. Hylton (ranked 382nd) will meet Potomac Senior (ranked 63rd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, Freedom will take on Westfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday down 324 places (351 vs. 27).
