Baseball Game Preview: Gulf Buccaneers vs. Pasco Pirates

Gulf is 0-5 against Pasco since April of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. Gulf will be playing at home against Pasco at 7:00 p.m.

Gulf fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Anclote on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Sharks by a score of 7-6. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gulf saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reid Wilson, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pasco, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Central get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Wednesday. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Not much got past Jayce Rollins, who gave up just two hits and racked up 15 Ks to keep Central off the board. Rollins has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Carson Wheatley and Boomer Newton did most of the damage at the plate: Wheatley went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Newton scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Those three RBI gave Wheatley a new career-high. Yanuel 'Yanni' Mercado was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Pasco's victory bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Gulf, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
