Fort Wayne Northrop hasn't had much luck against Leo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bruins are taking a road trip to challenge the Lions at 5:00 p.m.
Fort Wayne Northrop is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Woodlan on Wednesday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 22-2.
Kamea Sanchez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Leo). They blew past Fort Wayne Bishop Luers 15-4 on Wednesday. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.
Kortney Dowty was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Dowty was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carley Funk, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Ella Moore was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Leo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Wayne Bishop Luers only posted a batting average of .185.
Leo pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Fort Wayne Northrop, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
