Football Recap: Hartfield Academy Skates Past Pillow Academy with Ease

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Madison-Ridgeland Academy, Hartfield Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Pillow Academy Mustangs 42-13. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Hawks' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Mustangs are ranked 177th).

Ethan Elliott had a dynamite game, rushing for 134 yards and two TDs on only five carries, while also throwing for 176 yards and one touchdown while completing 81.8% of his passes. Those 134 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Collin McIntyre, who rushed for 62 yards and one score on only eight carries.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Hartfield Academy, adding 12 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Hayden McMinn: he added 12 points with four field goals.

Hartfield Academy's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Pillow Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hartfield Academy will welcome Jackson Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will need to watch out since the Raiders have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Pillow Academy, they will square off against Magnolia Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Mustangs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
