Softball Game Preview: Sutherlin Bulldogs vs. Coquille Red Devils

For the second straight game, Sutherlin will face off against Coquille. The Bulldogs will host the Red Devils at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Sutherlin turned things around against Coquille on Tuesday. They walked away with an 11-6 win over the Red Devils. That looming 11-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bulldogs yet this season.

Sophie Crandall made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. Crandall was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kellsie Engelstad and Peyton Keith did most of the damage at the plate: Engelstad got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one triple, while Keith went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. What's more, Engelstad posted two hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Berry, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Coquille dropped their record down to 1-18 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Sutherlin, their victory bumped their record up to 5-14.
