Grayslake Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Grayslake North on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 7-6. Rams fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Knights since on Monday.
Ann Wolff was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over nine innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Wolff was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Emma Andrews was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Danielle Eckenstahler, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, Round Lake was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Grant Community, falling 17-2.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Grayslake Central hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Round Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Grayslake Central's way against Round Lake when the teams last played back in April, as Grayslake Central made off with a 16-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
