Basketball Recap: Sumner Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Sumner came tearing into Thursday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Rogers Rams by a score of 67-58. The Spartans pushed the score to 55-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Rams cut but never quite recovered from.

Despite the loss, Rogers still got an impressive performance from Treyshawn Weatherspoon, who went 7 for 17 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight boards and seven assists. That's the most rebounds Weatherspoon has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Avary, who went 5 of 9 en route to 12 points and six boards.

Sumner pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Rogers, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-6.

Sumner will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Stevens at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sumner knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 matchups -- so hopefully Lake Stevens likes a good challenge. Rogers has already played their next game (against Silas), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
