Basketball Preview: Verndale Pirates vs. Upsala Cardinals
The Verndale Pirates will head out on the road to take on the Upsala Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Verndale unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 67-18 loss at the hands of Menahga. Having soared to a lofty 73 points in the game before, Verndale couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Upsala ended up a good deal behind the Tigers on Saturday and lost 62-48. Upsala has struggled against the Tigers recently, as their matchup on Saturday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Upsala got a solid performance out of Brenna Graves, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.
Verndale's defeat dropped their record down to 15-5. As for Upsala, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-10.
Verndale came up short against the Cardinals when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 64-54. Can Verndale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
