Basketball Game Preview: Martins Mill Mustangs vs. Alba-Golden Panthers

The Martins Mill Mustangs will square off against the Alba-Golden Panthers at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Martins Mill knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Alba-Golden likes a good challenge.

Martins Mill is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing LaPoynor: they outscored them in every quarter. Martins Mill blew past LaPoynor 67-47 on Tuesday. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 19 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Martins Mill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Archer Schneider, who went 11 for 17 on his way to 27 points and five rebounds. The contest was Schneider's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jak Kinder, who posted 18 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Alba-Golden ended up a good deal behind LaPoynor on Friday and lost 66-52. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1280th, while the Flyers are ranked 526th).

Martins Mill pushed their record up to 25-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 35 points. As for Alba-Golden, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.

Everything came up roses for Martins Mill against Alba-Golden in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 76-41 win. In that game, Martins Mill amassed a halftime lead of 39-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
