Basketball Game Preview: Holmes Aces vs. Northeastern Eagles

Holmes is 1-9 against Northeastern since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Holmes Aces will welcome the Northeastern Eagles at 6:00 p.m.

Last Wednesday, Holmes came up short against Hertford County and fell 48-38.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Northeastern, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-44 win over Pasquotank County on Thursday. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while the Panthers are ranked 408th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northeastern pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.2 points over those games. As for Holmes, their loss dropped their record down to 8-13.

Holmes was dealt a bruising 73-34 defeat at the hands of Northeastern in their previous meeting back in January. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Holmes was down 35-15.
