Basketball Recap: Rincon/University Rangers vs. Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks
Rincon/University was the 71-66 winner over Ironwood Ridge when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Rincon/University Rangers took a 74-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks on Monday.
Despite the loss, Rincon/University still got an impressive performance from Jonah (Sam) O'Dowd, who went 9-for-16 en route to 25 points and seven boards. Joshua Zaragoza was another key player, putting up four points in addition to eight assists and four steals.
Carter Brown continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ironwood Ridge, dropping a double-double with 33 points and 16 rebounds. Brown is becoming a predictor of Ironwood Ridge's success: when he posts at least 30 points the team is 2-1 (and 8-13 when he doesn't). Richard Markley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.
Rincon/University has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points over those games. As for Ironwood Ridge, their record is now 10-14.
