Basketball Recap: Sumter Gamecocks vs. Spring Valley Vikings

If Sumter was riding high fresh off their 68-21 takedown of West Florence last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sumter Gamecocks fell 56-44 to the Spring Valley Vikings on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Vikings this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 86-43 back in January.

Despite the loss, Sumter saw an underclassman step up: freshman Araina Ross went 6-for-15 to rack up 20 points and seven rebounds. The game was Ross' third in a row with at least 16 points. Jayla Thomas also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
