Preview: Pelion Panthers vs. Silver Bluff Bulldogs

Pelion is 0-8 against Silver Bluff since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Pelion Panthers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Silver Bluff Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Pelion has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5.

Last Tuesday, Pelion came up short against Batesburg-Leesville and fell 50-41. Pelion has not had much luck with Batesburg-Leesville recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Zyan Davis, who scored seven points along with two steals. Lucas New was another key contributor, scoring six points along with ten rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Silver Bluff fought the good fight in their overtime match against Strom Thurmond on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 59-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rebels.

Like Silver Bluff, they lost despite seeing results from several players. Justin Perry led the charge by scoring eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Devonta Parker, who scored eight points.

Even though they lost, Silver Bluff smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Strom Thurmond only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

Pelion has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season. As for Silver Bluff, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.

Thursday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Pelion have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 37.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Silver Bluff struggles in that department as they've made 38.4% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Pelion and Silver Bluff were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but Pelion came up empty-handed after a 39-38 loss. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Silver Bluff's Deshawn Wells, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals.
