Baseball Game Preview: John Champe Knights vs. Freedom Eagles

John Champe hasn't had much luck against Freedom recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Knights will welcome the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. John Champe's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Freedom's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

John Champe took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Rock Ridge an 8-0 shutout. The Knights haven't had any issues with the Phoenix recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Alex Weisman's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Josh Wallace, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Freedom sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Osbourn Park on Wednesday.

John Champe's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Freedom, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

John Champe skirted past Freedom 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
