Football Recap: St. Helena's Undefeated Season over After 12 Games + How To Watch

St. Helena and Bishop O'Dowd squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but St. Helena had to settle for second. They came up short against the Dragons, falling 49-26. The Saints were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-7.

When it comes to explaining why St. Helena lost, don't look at Jhony Covarrubias. Despite the final result, he rushed for 112 yards and one TD on only 13 carries, and also threw for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Eric Torres helped out on the ground, rushing for 81 yards.

Lamar Ellis produced another solid effort rushing for 184 yards and four scores while picking up 8.8 yards per carry for Bishop O'Dowd. Ellis is becoming a predictor of the Dragons' success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Cermenelli-Johnson, who rushed for 37 yards and one TD.

Having lost for the first time this season, St. Helena fell to 11-1. As for Bishop O'Dowd, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-4.

St. Helena does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Bishop O'Dowd, they will face off against Fortuna at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
