Baseball Recap: Saranac Redhawks vs. Covenant Christian Chargers
Saranac had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-8 to make it five. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Covenant Christian Chargers. The Redhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Chargers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
As for Covenant Christian, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-16. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly three runs.
For Covenant Christian's part, Ryan Kuiper and J.D. Schimmel did most of the damage at the plate: Kuiper went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Schimmel got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Ethan Looyenga was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Looking ahead, Saranac will challenge Potterville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Covenant Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Unity Christian at 4:00 p.m.
