Basketball Recap: Founders Christian Falcons vs. The Covenant Preparatory School Knights
The Founders Christian Falcons had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28.6 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They snuck past The Covenant Preparatory School with a 80-76 win. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Founders Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cody Baker led the charge by scoring 29 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Joseph Morales, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 assists.
Despite the loss, The Covenant Preparatory School still got an impressive performance from Jay Williams, who scored 38 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Williams has scored all season. Tye Leatherman was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Founders Christian has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-11 record this season. As for The Covenant Preparatory School, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6.
Founders Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Covenant Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. As for The Covenant Preparatory School, they will head out on the road to challenge the Victors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lifestyle Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
