The Vasquez Mustangs will face off against the Faith Baptist Contenders at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vasquez has five straight victories, Faith Baptist has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
If Vasquez beats Faith Baptist with ten runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Mustangs never let Bishop Union get on the board and left with a 10-0 win last Friday. Considering the Mustangs have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Luke Real made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Vasquez let Brandon Vasquez and Nate Jacobson run wild. Vasquez went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Jacobson got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Vasquez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Union only posted a batting average of .188.
Meanwhile, Faith Baptist lost 16-5 to Desert Christian on Thursday.
Vasquez pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Faith Baptist, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
Vasquez skirted past Faith Baptist 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Contenders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
