Baseball Game Preview: South Anchorage Wolverines vs. Eagle River Wolves

The South Anchorage Wolverines will challenge the Eagle River Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Eagle River took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on South Anchorage, who comes in off a win.

South Anchorage is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: West Anchorage, who was ranked 14th at the time (South Anchorage was ranked fifth). The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over the Eagles on Thursday. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by eight runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, Eagle River was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Chugiak. On the bright side, the nine- run performance marked the Wolves' highest-scoring matchup to date.

Brooks Inch made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Justin Barker was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

South Anchorage is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Eagle River, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

South Anchorage got the 'W' when the teams last played on Saturday against Eagle River by a conclusive 15-4 score. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
