Walton hasn't had much luck against Sidney recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Warriors will square off against the Team at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Walton's victory against South Kortright Central wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Rams 9-7.
The team relied heavily on Travis Houck, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Jaden Serra was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sidney). They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Dryden on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Riley Finch was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Kaleb Monroe was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Mott, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sidney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Walton's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Sidney, their record now sits at 5-3.
Walton couldn't quite get it done against Sidney when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 9-6. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
