League recap: Greeneville tops Claiborne to extend winning streak

Greeneville extended the longest winning streak in AA District 2 this week by beating Claiborne, 45-14. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Green Devils.

Cumberland Gap and Grainger played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Cumberland Gap eventually emerging with a 47-42 victory. Blake Franklin threw for 73 yards and ran for 219 yards in the win.

The Panthers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Wesley Nance helped Cumberland Gap's passing attack out by catching two balls for 21 yards.

Chase Smith was the best wideout in the league this week as Cumberland Gap defeated the Grizzlies. Smith tallied three receptions for 46 yards.

Cumberland Gap's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Franklin has thrown for 1405 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, while Dylan Gambel has 40 catches for 497 yards. Nance leads the league in rushing with 810 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Delynn Cline's team takes on West Greene. At the moment, the Panthers are in second, while the Buffaloes are in fourth.

Cumberland Gap made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,445 from 7,894. The improvement was the result of 47-42 victory over Grainger last week.
