Basketball Game Preview: Cameron Dragons vs. Pendleton County Wildcat

The Cameron Dragons will face off against the Pendleton County Wildcat at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cameron comes in on 11 and Pendleton County on five.

Cameron is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They breezed past Trinity Christian to the tune of 62-29. The Dragons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Pendleton County won against Paw Paw last Friday with 55 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. Pendleton County walked away with a 55-43 win over Pocahontas County. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Pendleton County's win came from a few key players Cameron will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Avery Townsend, who posted 17 points along with seven assists and four steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Julia Mongold, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 15 points and three steals.

Pendleton County pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.9 points over those games. As for Cameron, their win bumped their record up to 17-3.

Everything went Cameron's way against Pendleton County in their previous matchup back in March of 2023, as Cameron made off with a 79-59 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Pendleton County's Ariana Young, who went 17-for-30 on her way to 43 points.
