Baseball Recap: Catholic Central Comes Up Short

After flying high against Wellsville on Saturday, Catholic Central came back down to earth. The Crusaders lost 21-2 to the Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Crusaders of the 13-7 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Catholic Central saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joseph Vranish, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.

Catholic Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Wheeling Central Catholic, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-3.

Looking ahead, Catholic Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Wellsville at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 21.88 runs per game on average), something the Crusaders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wheeling Central Catholic, they will face off against Charleston Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
