Softball Recap: Grayson County Cougars vs. Elizabethtown Panthers

Grayson County lost against Elizabethtown back in April of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Grayson County Cougars fell 6-1 to the Elizabethtown Panthers. That's two games in a row now that Grayson County has lost by exactly five runs.

For Elizabethtown's part, Taytum Spiers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Spiers has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive pitching appearances. Spiers was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a double.

In other batting news, Alexys Waisbrot was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Savannah Castenada, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grayson County will face off against Warren Central at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Elizabethtown, they will head out on the road to square off against North Hardin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
