Softball Game Preview: MacArthur Brahmas vs. McCollum Cowboys

The MacArthur Brahmas are taking a road trip to challenge the McCollum Cowboys at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McCollum took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on MacArthur, who comes in off a win.

MacArthur had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Southwest Legacy on Friday. MacArthur's pitcher stepped up to hand Southwest Legacy a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Brahmas, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Kaylin Salazar made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, MacArthur got a massive performance out of Sienna Richmond, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Richmond a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Katelin Keller, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

MacArthur always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, McCollum fell victim to South San Antonio and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bobcats. The Cowboys have struggled against the Bobcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

The win (which was MacArthur's third in a row) raised their record to 10-9-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for McCollum, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.

MacArthur suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to McCollum when the teams last played back in February. Can MacArthur avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
