Recap: Athenian Owls vs. Head-Royce Jayhawks
The Athenian Owls pushed their score all the way to 60 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Head-Royce 65-60. While losing is never fun, Athenian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while Head-Royce is ranked 145th).
Athenian lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Surya Devasenapathy, who scored 19 points. Evan Lucas was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Athenian's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5. As for Head-Royce, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 16-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Athenian will take on Valley Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Valley Christian has now lost ten straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Head-Royce, they will be playing at home against Redwood Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Redwood Christian has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21.
