Baseball Recap: Trinity Presbyterian Beats Handley for Their Third Straight Victory

Trinity Presbyterian had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Handley Tigers on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Land Sharpless and Fleming Hall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Sharpless tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hall struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last two matches. At bat, Sharpless went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Hall went 1-for-4 with one home run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Patton Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another was Xavier Boswell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Trinity Presbyterian pushed their record up to 23-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Handley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 19-15 record this season.

Trinity Presbyterian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Handley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
