Softball Recap: Hutchison Hawks vs. Lathrop Malemutes
Hutchison had lost 13 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 3-8 to make it 14. They lost 14-4 to the Lathrop Malemutes. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 28-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
As for Lathrop, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.
For Lathrop's part, Peyton Hamilton made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave Hamilton a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Isla Holm was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Kaylee Himes was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hutchison will welcome Delta at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Lathrop, they will challenge West Valley at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. The Wolf Pack will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Malemutes surely won't give up without a fight.
