Softball Recap: Independence Gets the Win

On Monday Independence's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Browne Bruins. This was payback for the Patriots, who suffered a 22-15 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mariana Perez Vargas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nailea Lopez Flores was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.

Independence's record now sits at 6-0. As for Browne, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 9-3 record.

Coming up, Independence will welcome Washington at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence is facing Washington at the right time seeing as Washington is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Browne, they will venture away from home to take on South Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Browne's pitchers better be ready for this one: South Mountain has averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
