Lubbock-Cooper is 9-1 against Coronado since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Lubbock-Cooper Pirates are taking a road trip to take on the Coronado Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. Lubbock-Cooper will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Lubbock-Cooper gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Palo Duro with a sharp 15-5 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Coronado beat Amarillo 6-1 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Matt Garcia spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had over his last five contests.

On the hitting side, Zac Long was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of Coronado's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Jaden Lira was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

Coronado pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lubbock-Cooper, their record now sits at 12-8.

Lubbock-Cooper took their victory against Coronado when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lubbock-Cooper since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
