Softball Recap: Ellet Picks Up Ninth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for Ellet, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Firestone Falcons a 10-0 shutout on Monday. Considering the Orangemen have won 11 matches by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Rylie Sprouse was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keyli Myers, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sicillia Albaugh, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Ellet pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Firestone, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Ellet and Firestone are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Orangemen will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Archbishop Hoban at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Ellet 3.5, the Knights 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Firestone, they will head out to take on Walsh Jesuit at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Falcons surely won't give up without a fight.
