Softball Game Preview: Chiawana Riverhawks vs. Kennewick Lions

The Chiawana Riverhawks will challenge the Kennewick Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chiawana has given up an average of 9.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Chiawana lost 15-8 to Hermiston on Friday. The Riverhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Kennewick came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Lobos with a sharp 13-3 win. Considering the Lions have won nine games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kennewick got a massive performance out of Rylee Bendewald, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Bendewald a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mayce Davis, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Kennewick kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matchups.

Kennewick's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for Chiawana, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Chiawana came out on top in a nail-biter against Kennewick when the teams last played back in April of 2025, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Riverhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
