Baseball Game Preview: Jefferson Bears vs. Summerfield Bulldogs

Jefferson has gone a perfect 3-0 against Summerfield recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bears will host the Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. Jefferson is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Jefferson fell victim to Grosse Ile and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Red Devils, falling 9-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Bears were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Summerfield posted their closest victory since May 2, 2024 on Wednesday. They skirted past Sand Creek 6-4.

Rylee Schiffler spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks. Summerfield is undefeated when Schiffler allows three or fewer earned runs, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Jude Flowers was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Summerfield: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.

Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Summerfield, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Jefferson beat Summerfield 14-9 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
