League recap: Manteca extends winning streak with victory over Sierra

Valley Oak League recap November 5, 2013

Manteca added to the longest winning streak in Valley Oak League this week by beating Sierra, 35-14. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Buffaloes.

Sonora moved up to 457 from 491 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Wildcats were able to move up by topping Kimball 21-20.

Jake Pruitt threw for 229 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 25-32 with 2 interceptions.

Victor Lopez was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 150 yards on 20 carries as East Union lost to Manteca. Teammate Jose Maltez added to the ground attack by rushing for 139 yards.

Leading Valley Oak League in both passing and receiving yards, Sierra's Pruitt and Lucas Widmer have proven to be a lethal combination. Pruitt has thrown for 2,520 yards this season, while Widmer has 49 catches for 811 yards. The Jaguars' Gaige Allen leads the league in rushing yards with 1,085.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Sonora takes on Oakdale. At the moment, bryan craig's team is in fourth, while the Mustangs are in third.

Oakdale took down Lathrop 56-21 last week, the largest margin of any game.
