Basketball Recap: Piute's Run of Three Straight Wins Now Over

Piute lost against North Sevier back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Thunderbirds took a 59-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wolves. The Thunderbirds were up 19-5 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

North Sevier's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kade Johnson led the charge by shooting 45% from the field on his way to 13 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Cynch Wanlass, who went 5-for-9 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.

With the defeat, Piute broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-2. As for North Sevier, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.

Coming up, Piute will host Grand County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Thunderbirds will be up against the Red Devils' rather soft defense (which has allowed 66.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for North Sevier, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-40 victory against Waterford on the 5th.
