Volleyball Recap: Whitfield Gets Their First 'W'

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against MICDS, Whitfield was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They skirted past the St. Charles Pirates 3-2.

Whitfield was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (105-102), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-21, 16-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Harper Freeman paced Whitfield's offense, picking up 11 kills. Freeman got some help from Gabi Gutierrez and her 19 assists. Finally, Freeman was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.

Grace Basler stepped up in the loss, getting 24 digs, 10 kills, and six aces. Another player making a difference was Brynn Genebacher, who had 23 assists and 10 digs.

Whitfield's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for St. Charles, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

Whitfield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Lutheran South on the 9th. As for St. Charles, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Winfield on the 10th.
