Softball Game Preview: Iroquois West Raiders vs. Chrisman Cardinals

The Iroquois West Raiders will challenge the Chrisman Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Chrisman took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Iroquois West, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Iroquois West turned things around against Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Saturday. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Falcons.

Autumn Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Kyla Dewitt was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Leah Honeycutt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Iroquois West hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Chrisman lost 17-2 to Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin on Friday. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Blue Devils recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Taylor Jones made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Chrisman's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Iroquois West, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 3-6.

Iroquois West suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to Chrisman when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
