Softball Recap: Big Spring Gets the Win

While Big Spring didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Northern York Polar Bears by a score of 13-8 on Thursday. The Bulldogs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Polar Bears, too.

Zoey Zimmerman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Big Spring got a massive performance out of Hannah Darhower, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Darhower also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Victoria Rinaldi, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Big Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.

Big Spring's record is now 5-2. As for Northern York, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Big Spring will square off against Delone Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Northern York, they will face off against Greencastle-Antrim at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Polar Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
